Wrong end of the stick

Episode 95 is something of an amusing one; amusing because Victoria gets the wrong end of the stick and winds up thinking that Burke himself killed Malloy. The woman-in-peril situation is fun and it's interesting to see Roger playing against type as the hero of the hour.

Stop talking about that pen!

The writers of individual episodes really took it to heart that the pen is mightier than the sword as they bring up that prop again in Victoria's fears that someone is trying to harm her after revealing that she saw Bill Malloy's ghost. She's out with Frank Garner in what appears to be the beginning of a romance and tells him things that he has heard about the Collins family through his father. Burke shows up to tell her that he is wrapping up his business and they can return to Collinsport shortly. Even though he's been told about the hatred between Burke and the Collins family, Frank doesn't at all seem to be concern about Victoria and Burke being together.

The episode takes a strange twist when Victoria decided she doesn't want to drive back with bird and make the call to call Inwood, asking Roger to pick her up. The writing in the episodes leading up to this gives no indication as to why Victoria would suddenly suspect burn of being a killer. It's off the wall and throws a lot of previous details that have occurred out of the window, making this a very disappointing episode. However, this is one of the few times when a major character makes a sudden appearance moments before the episode is over, and as far as script structure is concerned, that element is interesting.
