Kaikan Phrase (Sensual Phrase) is about a rock band called /\ucifer (pronounced Lucifer) and their journey to be the best rock band in Japan, including their pasts, family lives, and relationships. They almost didn't make it several times, but they pulled through and became famous, overcoming obstacles of all kinds.

The series was WAY different than the original manga (aka "Japanese comic"), and to me, it could be very good or a flop. For the first 18 episodes, one of the main characters (high school student Aine, the lead singer Sakuya's, love interest and /\ucifer's lyricist) didn't appear at all. It would help that the producers decided to start the whole show before the band members had even met. Also, They completely changed the storyline for what happened with Sakuya's half brother, Ralph, and his involvement with Aine as well. Lastly, Sakuya and Aine hadn't become real "lovers" for the first episodes she was in at all. It happened so fast in the manga. Also, they skipped over the parts entirely where Atsuro and his step-sister have a relationship and when Yuki is actually married. I was very disappointed.

It shocked me when I found out that this series had an anime to begin with, and I had read the story for about a year. I wondered if it was very popular at all. If an anime has 44 episodes, I guess it was popular on some degree... Also, if it is REALLY popular (especially in the United States and Canada), it gets dubbed in English, although I can't really say that for other animes...

The singing, for me, was not the best I've heard, but it surprised me that the actor for the lead singer could sing at all. He was really pitchy in the first few episodes, but apparently he got lessons after those episodes were recorded, and he got better.

Overall, it's a good series, and I would have to say that's it's refreshing to know the history of the band itself and what they went through before they were famous, and cheering when Aine finally came into the scene and awaiting patiently for her and Sakuya to become an item.
