Nesbitt's ticket tragedy
ShadeGrenade12 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Nesbitt is now fully settled into his new job as head of Light Entertainment at Megla ( presumably that's short for megalomania ) television. He gets a visit from an office boy ( Vas Blackwood, who played 'Pele' in 'In Sickness & In Health') who is delivering mail whilst on roller skates. Nesbitt sees a video of his boss - Kevin Hughes - welcoming him to the job and urging him to come up with some fresh new ideas for game-shows. And he only has a few days to do it...

This was the first episode to bring Nesbitt and Hughes together. Hughes is a massive contrast to 'David Cochrane', the character he played in 'Duty Free'. Before getting involved in comedy, Barron used to play villains in shows such as 'Randall & Hopkirk ( Deceased )'. The experience served him in good stead for this series.

The main plot is ditched after a while as Nesbitt is ordered to secure tickets to see 'Othello' at the National Theatre. Nesbitt thinks it is a rip-off. "Why should I pay to see Michael Gambon black-up!" is how he puts it. Nevertheless, his job is on the line and he decides to sleep outside the theatre all night in order to be able to buy the tickets the first thing the next morning...

James Bolam is fine but the episode just isn't very good. Deborah Grant does not help by screaming at the top of her voice.

Funniest moment - Hughes gives Nesbitt a ride in his limosene, then stops and tells him to get out, leaving poor Nesbitt stranded in the middle of nowhere. And with snow on the ground to boot!
