Pretty good, but how does IMDb compute these ratings?

I just checked out the specifics on the rating for 3.2 on this film. Before I gave my rating, there were only 5 ratings and 3 of these were 10--bringing the arithmetic average to 8.4--a rather high score indeed. How exactly IMDb does this rating system is beyond me and they don't publicize it, but it's a shame with a short independent film like this you'd assume from the 3.2 that it's a bad film--which it isn't.

This is a film apparently inspired by an Oscar Wilde story that I have never read. How close it is to the story is anyone's guess. However, here's the basic plot. A Portuguese man has a bakery that's in trouble. The roof is leaking badly but he can't afford to fix it. However, a customer offers to help. But, this is a case where you definitely need to look a "gift horse in the mouth" as this "friend" takes the owner on a non-stop adventure that can only end in disaster.

The film, at times, is pretty funny and the jokes are a bit broad. However, you find yourself continuing to watch the film because it is very engaging and silly.

By the way, was this really Portuguese? I am curious because it sounded a bit more like "Borat-speak" to me.
