- Luka is sued for 'malpractice' by carpenter Curtis Ames, who had a stroke -wrecking his health and family- while awaiting care for pneumonia, due to County's permanent shortages of staff, room and budget. During the trial, each man's recollections of Ames' treatment are recounted via testimony and flashbacks, Luka worries about the implications of the suit and the possible outcomes, yet insists Abby returns to work to adjust as a young mother. An equipment shortage culminating in a burnout sabotaging Pratt, Abby and Neela's treatment of a heart patient leads to attempting a risky procedure. Pratt's early morning trip to the barbershop results in a new awareness of community need while half-brother Chaz asks to move in as he can't study at home or find a decent room.—KGF Vissers
