An amusing film but disappointingly average in too many aspects

While the threat of Communism continues to try and destroy the American way of life, some Pinkos would try and distract the American public from the fight against socialism by exaggerating the threat posed by one of the country's newest demographic groups – Zombies. This film goes out to set the record straight, clear up those issues over brain eating and make sure that the public can focus on the real evil of Communism and not be distracted by those that alleged there is something inherently wrong with being undead.

Those old propaganda films normally make for good vehicles for fun nowadays for those who can get the tone of mockery just right so that it doesn't overwrite the style that it is attempting to ape. I have seen it done successful, badly and averagely. Here we have one that seems to fall into the average category as, although it has potential, it is limited by the delivery. The concept appealed to me as I had hoped it would be imaginative and witty and, to a point, it was. This point was not much more further than the original concept itself though as it seemed stuck at the developmental stage with nothing much more to say. It was still amusing at this level but I did feel like I was waiting for it to be funny.

The style is also averagely done. The trimmings of the propaganda film are here but the animation is far too clean where really it needed to be grainer and move less smoothly (see Pasta For War to see what I mean). The voice work is a real weakness as well – it sounds far too modern and has none of the confident booming authority of the real propaganda films of the period. Overall then an amusing film but far too average to be more than that.
