Coroner's Verdict
Prismark102 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Main Chance bows out with the epitome of a pyrrhic victory.

Detective Sergeant Allington's wife died after taking a mixture of antidepressants and amphetamine based weight loss pills.

He blames their GP, Doctor Fenway for not knowing of all the possible side effects. Instead of pursuing a medical negligence claim, he wants Fenway charged for manslaughter.

No lawyer is willing to take the case, but David Main sees this as a chance to make a name for himself. It could mean potential clients to take on doctors.

At the Coroner's court he is up against Andrew Retford who is representing Doctor Fenway. After the initial skirmish, Retford needs to get a barrister for his client.

In the end there was never any real chance of a conviction even though the Coroner rules manslaughter. The Public Prosecutor will never push the case to a criminal court, Allington will end up getting civil compensation.

The final episode sees David Main entering partnership with Margaret Castleton. She realises that there is no future in the family practice without a swashbuckler like David. This means pushing Henry Castleton into retirement.

Henry leaves firing a salvo at the European Court of Justice which is going to hear an appeal of a case he won. Like many Brexiteers Henry gots his facts wrong. I think he meant the European Court of Human Rights.
