When the first few seconds of this episode began, elation rushed through my every pore! It's Greg Stillson! He's back! This is probably his "mid season" show like the one he had last year with the chemist but who cares! I was so excited I had no clue what was going on because I couldn't pay attention. All I could think of was "yay!" After regaining composure I rewound and started again.
The show didn't really further the Stillson storyline much, but I didn't think it would. I knew we would have to wait until the end of the season for that, so it was expected. In passing, Johnny did get to clarify his stance about what went down in the season premier but they were such quick mentions and the initial velocity of emotion has been lost from what occurred because of how long ago it happened and how it was not even glanced at or handled for so many episodes afterward.
The twist to this episode was basically that we were supposed to expect that something terrible happened that really didn't. Eh, not much of a twist, more of a way for them to look like they were about to tell an uneasy but telling story about mass murder when really they were just shooting blanks. Less of a whodunit, more of a whatwasreallydone-ohisthatall.
It may have furthered the Stillson story a bit in a few ways and I do enjoy Johnny's interaction with his main nemesis. Another cute thing is that I notice Johnny's use of the word "time." It used to be mostly, "There's still time," but lately there has been more of him saying, "There's not much time." I think this episode was the first I have ever heard of him saying, "There's no time," maybe to add to the suspense that danger is closer than ever before. I always make a mental note when I hear him refer to time. Not much more pressing he can be now for time, though. Maybe, "There's absolutely no time," or perhaps he'll get to the point to say, "There was no time, we're too late." Exciting!
Gene Purdey made a brief appearance that flew by faster than the sentence I am writing here. Sara wasn't on the show, so Dana Bright's total minutes in this season from being on one episode still adds up to more face time than what was once a main integral character. But the fact that we saw everyone else, except, unfortunately, for the comically cool Janice, means it was a jam packed episode that was much enjoyed.
