Steve Martin in The Pink Panther 2 (2009)

Goofs

The Pink Panther 2

Edit

Continuity

Clouseau and Ponton load a new model Smart Car to drive to the airport. As they drive, the car turns into an older Smart Car, with different rear lights. When they arrive at the airport, the car is a new Smart Car.
In The Pink Panther (2006), the diamond was set in a ring. In this film, it is just the gem.
During the finale, when the dumbwaiter opens, and large decorative napkin is on a plate. When Clouseau jumps into the dumbwaiter, the napkin is gone and a bun is on the plate. When it goes up and he gets out of the dumbwaiter, the napkin that was on the plate earlier falls out. Lastly, Clouseau's suit is virtually clean of any food and beverage items.
After Avellaneda shows his shoulder to the Dream Team, he buttons the topmost button of his shirt. When Clouseau tears off his shirt, all of the buttons are open.
As Clouseau begins to explain how his reference system for parking tickets has led to him solving the crime, the box containing the real Pink Panther inexplicably disappears from his hand between shots in a fraction of a second.

Factual errors

When Clouseau leaves France he puts his passport on the immigration counter for an exit stamp but he doesn't move his hand away resulting in the immigration officer stamping his hand. European Union citizens don't get entry or exit stamps on their passports from any European Union member state or EFTA country (such as Switzerland).
One of the items stolen was the Pope's ring. However, the ring shown is actually the type worn by bishops and cardinals with a red stone (presumably a ruby) on it, but never by the Pope. The pope's fisherman ring is all gold (or gold plated as is Francis' ring) with the reigning pope's coat of arms on its top, which was used in the past as an envelope seal and stamp. That is the reason why the papal ring is destroyed when the reigning Pope dies or resigns (as did Benedict XVI) to prevent forgery of documents.
The "based on characters created by" credit does not list William Peter Blatty, who created Inspector Dreyfus for A Shot in the Dark (1964).
Jacques Clouseau is supposed to be a Police Inspector, yet he wears a uniform that was worn by the Gendarmerie (national police) until the early 1990s. Moreover, the two chevrons on his sleeves would make him a simple gendarme, a non-commissioned officer whose rank is far below Inspector.
The papal apartments are to the right of St. Peter's Basilica. In the pope scene in the film, however, when Clouseau goes out onto the balcony from the pope's bedroom, he is on the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, not the papal apartment balcony. It is this central balcony on which a newly elected pope is announced and presented to Catholics around the world.

Revealing mistakes

When Clouseau jumps from the globe to the chandelier, the face of Steve Martin's stunt double is visible.
Alonso Avellaneda is supposed to be a Spaniard. Yet, he speaks with actor Jeremy Irons' trademark British accent. This is particularly noticeable in the way he pronounces his own name ("Ah-veia-needa") when first introduced.

Crew or equipment visible

Towards the end, during the conversation between Clouseau and Sonia, a male crew member is reflected in the rear view mirror of Sonia's car.
When Clouseau gets clinged to a car's window and is driven off with the vehicle, one overhead shot of the car reflects the camera crane.
Towards the end when they celebrate the closing of the case, during the conversation between the disgraced Clouseau and Sonia, a crew member is visible in the back of Ashwarya Rai's car. The male crew member is visible only through his reflection off the rear-view mirror.

Errors in geography

The Italian Inspector's plane has an American registration number.

Plot holes

At the end of The Pink Panther (2006), the singer Xania was determined to be the new owner of the Pink Panther diamond. In this film, the diamond is on display at a Paris museum with no acknowledgment that Xania donated it.
In the previous Pink Panther film, the Pink Panther diamond is small enough to be set in a ring worn by its owners. In this film it is a much larger, teardrop shaped stone that resembles the "world's largest diamond" seen in the Sellers era films.
Clouseau canceled his flight to Kyoto (to meet the Dream Team) at the last minute, because the Pink Panther was stolen. Yet the Team are already in Paris the next day. How did they get there so fast?

Character error

In the first The Pink Panther (2006), Jean Reno's character had a British accent. In this film, he has a very thick French accent. Likewise, Dreyfus' accent (after being re-cast from Kevin Kline to John Cleese) has a strong English accent.
