Islander (2006)

Goofs

Islander

Edit

Continuity

In the scene when Cheryl is leaving the island, you can see that two different ferry boats are used in the one scene, "The Governor Curtis" and "The Captain Charles Philbrook." The way the ferry schedule is set up, when one boat is in Vinalhaven, the other is 75 minutes away in Rockland.
Originally when Eban is visited by the doctor at home, you see his wound with just stitches in place. She replaces the band aid, and reminds him to change it. In the next shot, there is a butterfly bandage on the wound. If the original wound didn't need stitches, there would have been a butterfly bandage applied, not aafter the wound was already stitched.

Factual errors

Eben's attorney says he is from the "Maine Public Defender's office." However, no such office exists - Maine hires private attorneys for indigent clients.

Revealing mistakes

When Eben and Popper first go out there is a reversed shot. You can see the numbers on Popper's boat and the text on a boat in the background are backwards.

Errors in geography

When Eben's Mom is driving him home after his return to the island, the inspection sticker on the windshield is a New Hampshire sticker.

Character error

While fishing with Popper, Eben says "you might be on to something only hauling every third day," referring to the quantity of lobsters caught in relation to the other fishermen. The typical fishermen hauls 800 traps (the legal limit in Vinalhaven's management zone) and the break down is 3 days, 250/250/300. Then the cycle repeats. So even though they are fishing every day, each set of gear is hauled every third day, thus negating the point Eben was trying to make.
A character mentions the old prison that was torn down was in Rockland. The Maine State prison was located in Thomaston before being torn down and relocated to Warren. A Maine resident (especially one living that close to Rockland) would not have made that mistake.
