Eddie gets his mud desserts.
pensman24 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Ward is expecting an important call from the office; and the boys are off to the movies. Beaver goes to see The Mad Hypnotist, and Beaver and Larry are mesmerized in their own way by the film. As soon as Beaver gets home, Beaver tries to hypnotize June without result. Next Beaver tries Ward and gets chased away. Then it's Wally without success. Beaver even tries a neighbor's cat but when Eddie comes over to talk to Wally, he disturbs Beaver's attempt. Wally explains to Eddie that Beaver saw this movie and now he's trying to hypnotize everyone. Eddie thinks it would be a blast to pretend to be hypnotized just to scare Beaver. Wally is going out to see Mary Ellen Rogers, but he warns Eddie not to fool Beaver or he will bop him one when he gets back.

But it's too irresistible for Eddie, and when Eddie goes outside he pretends Beaver was able to hypnotized him; but before going under, he asks if Beaver is sure he can bring him out of the trance. Beaver has no doubts for all he has to do is snap his fingers.

Once Eddie is in a "trance" he pretends to obey Beaver's command and walks off; but Beaver can't get Eddie out of the trance, and when Wally calls Beaver to come inside for lunch, a worried Beaver isn't sure where his slave is going.

The next day a zombie like Eddie begins following Beaver around saying, "Master, I am yours to command." Larry figures Eddie is just kidding because he's a creep, but when Beaver tells Eddie to go jump in a lake, Eddie walks off. Then Larry wonders if Eddie does jump in and drowns, will Beaver be taken to jail. Beaver and Larry run after Eddie to stop him. Beaver counters his command and tells Eddie to go home. A credulous Larry is just glad that even if Eddie is kidding that he is glad he didn't hypnotize him.

Beaver returns home in the hope of talking to Ward. Ward is busy but Beaver asks if a guy was hypnotized and did something wrong would the hypnotist be in trouble. Ward doesn't have time for foolish questions and sends Beaver away.

That night Beaver is having a nightmare in which he is thrashing about and calling out for Eddie not to jump. This wakes Wally up, and he wakes Beaver to find out why Beaver is dreaming about Eddie. Wally says Eddie is just giving Beaver the business; and that Eddie is a dirty rat for pretending to be hypnotized when Wally told him not to. Wally tells Beaver to meet him after school tomorrow by Larry's and they will fix that wise guy Eddie.

Next day Larry and Beaver are outside of Larry's and Wally is hiding in the bushes. When Eddie spots Beaver, he starts the zombie act and walks toward the boys. Eddie's eyes are closed and Beaver tells Eddie to turn left. When Eddie turns, Wally steps out and waits for Eddie to walk into him. When Eddie opens his eyes he sees Wally and knows he is in trouble. Eddie runs off with Wally and Beaver in pursuit. Unfortunately, Eddie runs into a lawn where the sprinkler was on and he trips and ends up covered in mud.

Up in their room, Beaver and Wally are laughing at the vision of Eddie covered in mud. Ward walks into the boys' room and apologizes for neglecting them all weekend because he was busy with office work. Ward wants to know if he can still help Beaver with his problem. Beaver says no, the problem was solved when Wally pushed Eddie into the mud. Now Ward really wants to know what happened. Wally tells his brother to fill their dad in. A relieved Beaver begins to narrate the weekend misadventure.

Afterward Ward relates the story to June; and he even feels Eddie's mud bath was well deserved. Ward feels that he should have listened to Beaver from the start. June asks if Ward's father listened. Ward says he listened but nine times out of ten in ended with the belt; but he did listen.

Just a fun episode. Yes, there were multiple "lessons," but rather than dwell on them, it is more fun to just picture a scared Eddie covered in mud.

65 years later, Ken Osmond as Eddie Haskell still entertains
AlsExGal10 February 2024
Wally and Beaver go to the movies on Saturday, although it is to separate movies. Wally goes to a war film, and Beaver and Larry go to see "The Mad Hypnotist". As a result, Beaver becomes very interested in hypnotism and tries imitating the methods seen in the film on his mother, father, brother, and even a neighborhood cat, with disappointing results.

Enter stage left Eddie Haskell. He pretends that Beaver has successfully hypnotized him, and then refuses to "snap out of it" when Beaver tries to take him out of his "spell". Every time Beaver sees Eddie, he's still in a trance - walking like a zombie, arms outstretched, eyes closed. It's odd that Beaver never wondered how Eddie managed to change his clothes and stay hygienic if constantly in a trance! Beaver is tormented by the thought that Eddie may be in a trance for the rest of his life. How will this all work out? Watch and find out.

This is meant to both entertain and be a lesson in how it's important to listen to and spend time with your kids. Ward had been working all weekend, and when Beaver came to him about this problem, it all just seemed to be a nonsensical series of questions about hypnotism that I could see Ward could lose patience with given all that was on his mind, the questions seeming to have no point. It turned out that they did have a point, it was just that Beaver, thinking Eddie really was hypnotized, thought he could be in some kind of trouble.

Classic Eddie Haskell
MichaelMartinDeSapio12 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the classic Eddie Haskell episodes. Beaver and Larry go to see a movie about a mad scientist who hypnotizes people. Beaver decides to try hypnotism out on a neighborhood cat, then Eddie sidles up and tells Beaver to try it on him. Eddie then proceeds to follow Beaver around for a couple of days pretending to be hypnotized and awaiting orders from his "master." Beaver is thoroughly spooked, thinking he has really succeeded in putting Eddie in a hypnotic trance. Beaver goes to Ward for help, but Ward is too busy doing work in his den to bother with "silly questions" and effectively tells Beaver to get lost. Beaver is tormented with nightmares about a hypnotized Eddie jumping off a cliff. Wally realizes at once that Eddie has been pulling a dirty stunt on Beaver. He promises to help Beaver "fix" Eddie good, which they proceed to do the next day. Suffice to say Eddie remains thoroughly "fixed" - and covered with mud!

This episode is a great example of a simple comic idea effectively carried out. Listen for a funny exchange between Beaver and Ward in the den on the matter of Eddie and his moral code (or lack thereof). It is also nice, and typical of the show, that Ward eventually apologizes for being curt with the boys in the den and promises to make it up to them by spending more time with them.

Great Eddie episode
vitoscotti5 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Eddie doesn't listen to anyone. Simple script is a perfect vehicle for Ken Osmond to shine. Eddie gets his in the end. He always bounces back.

Big script holes. Ward waiting for a call from the brass on a Saturday? They wouldn't be working. They'd be at the golf course, on their boats sailing. Beaver iis way too gullible for the age he's portraying. Wish they had the credit for the voice of the hypnotist at the movie. He sounds familiar.

MASTER, I AM YOURS TO COMMAND!
tcchelsey19 November 2023
Wacky episode with Eddie Haskell back in action, this time trying to scare Beave out of his shoes. Has to be one of the best "Eddie episodes," one all of us kids used to immitate, especially at recess.

Beaver and Larry head to the movies, naturally to catch a creepy SVENGALI-type flick, and putting some interesting ideas in their heads... Of course, playing the game is Eddie, who pretends to be "Trilby," completely hypnotized by Beaver, ready to do his bidding? It's a joke that goes way too far, and soon Beave thinks he's created a monster!

Watching Eddie walk around as a slave zombie is as good as it gets, that is until he walks smack into Wally --who is ready to bop him one, maybe two! These were also the stories that showed what a real good brother Wally was. We all loved Tony Dow.

I agree with the last reviewer, there's a "den scene" where Beave tries to explain things to Ward, who is also trying to get work done --everything goes haywire.

Of course, Eddie gets what's coming to him. And finally Beave gets to talk it all out with Ward.

Good closing scene with Ward and June. June asks if his dad was a listener. To which he replies, "He used his belt, but he listened!"

Written by popular writer Katherine Albert and her husband David, who wrote 12 episodes for the series. They actually were co-writers of the famous movie, HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE and the later tv series. They probably were inspired by the classic 1931 John Barrymore horror film, which to this day is a lot of fun to watch.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 24 remastered Universal dvd box set.

(*Ward to June quote*) - "Dear, I have answers here that'll cover everything."

After watching "The Mad Hypnotist" at the local movie theater, Beaver gets it into his head that he has the power to hypnotize others (but his subjects won't cooperate with him).

Eddie Haskell decides to give Beaver the business and pretend that he is under his hypnotic spell.

Wally decides to teach Eddie a lesson and this causes Eddie all sorts of embarrassment.
