Horrible show
tye3312 August 2008
This disgusting (figuratively) show is a sick example of people being belittled and forced to conform because insecure people don't like how they look. These kind of shows have no place on television in the 21st century to be completely blunt.

I'm not sure why anybody would watch this show or appear on it. Either as someone being (unfairly) judged or as a "juror". The jurors should be ashamed that they could stoop down to the level of insulting someone just for a spot on TV, and the funny thing is a LOT of the jurors have much less style than the people being judged.

I'm not sure if this is an attempt to turn everyone into white collar American drones or not but I will never watch this junk again. I thought tolerance and "being yourself" was supposed to be king in the world today?

cannot believe it is still running???? disaster.....

OMG, the dumbest and most sickening show ever! completely agree with tye33, and anyone smart enough to see the stupidity of this show.... not to mention the dentist "specialists" who know only how to do veneers to make teeth look good... have they ever heard of simple small corrections???? and maybe some whitening??????? to put veneers on someone's teeth, you mostly need to almost completely ruin the tooth.... and they sometimes do that to people who only have a slight case of anomaly, otherwise healthy teeth!!!...... and the hair "stylist" who doesn't listen to his clients desires, likes and dislikes..... dermatologist who doesn't tell them what to aspect of their treatment, and lets them be completely in shock after it, even cry from the shock of how they look after the treatment??????? oh, and that woman who teaches them how to behave politely.... OMG, she should be shipped to the moon...... don't recall the last time I saw a person who irritated me more..... and just to be in the clear, do they really expect a speed course of self esteem will make a difference to a person who has lived without it for years and years and years???? you think bungee jumping is the means of making someone feel better ABOUT themselves????? dear God, how the hell is this show still running????

A distinctly Canadian reality makeover show that goes just far enough.
flaxencurls11 September 2009
Style by Jury is a truly enjoyable show. Contestants apply for the makeover because they are unhappy with their appearance and want a change. The show does not try to force them to conform, nor are they required to keep the changes. The purpose is to show them another option, and they are almost always pleased with the results.

Although the judging portion is a bit harsh and unnecessary, it is only a small part of the show. I think the makeovers achieve the perfect balance between going too far and not going nearly far enough. Contestants get laser eye surgery, cosmetic dental work, and Botox, but the medical intervention generally stops there. They also get a new outfit, new haircut, and professional makeup. The distinctly Canadian part of the show is that they also get their underlying insecurities and reasons for unhappiness addressed by life coaches, psychotherapists, grief counsellors, laughter coaches, or whatever odd brand of healing is appropriate for the situation.

And really, whether people love the new look or not, who is going to regret getting free eye-correction surgery and a fantastic set of teeth?

Concerning the previous comment.

It's not an American show, it's Canadian. I believe it is based in Toronto.

My wife watches it and I'll admit they do seek out individuals in dire need of self-esteem improvement. The few episodes I've seen have been cases where the person was very pleased with the end product of themselves. They seemed to be very happy with the suggestions.

It is also done on a shoestring budget compared to its contemporaries. I am not a fan of the experts they bring in.

This last line is just to fulfill the 10-line minimum for IMDb. Dumb requirement.

Disgusting, awful, terribly annoying show
When God was throwing intelligence all the people who made, participated or watched this show had an umbrella. Not that this show insults the intelligence of the viewers but it also is unbearably repetitive and idiotic. Most definitely THE WORST show I have ever seen. Annoyed by every step of their transformation and the people who repeatedly make same changes on the candidates. Not to mention the jury that makes comments, in which some people would need a makeover themselves, while they watch and deliberate. It's a shame that a great TV channel like FoxLife plays this inexplicably worst show every day for few years now. I hope that the show will be canceled and that all the experts who "transform" the people will get a brain transplantation and start understanding how disgusting and irritating it is to have a dishonest smile from ear to ear in each show up to the point of making me feel sick. I hope that this comment will help people who are actually thinking about giving a chance to this stupidity! I completely agree with the other negative comments given about this show, this show is an insult to all intelligence that exists. Anyone even remotely smart or with a sense of REALITY will understand that this show shouldn't be watched due to the stupidity of it which is beyond all borders of bad.

Joyable.

I like this make-over TV series a lot. The judging of the jury is in my opinion very unnecessary. The person who gets the make-over knows that he or she has to get a make-over. So just give it to him or her and let it be.

The first hundred or some episodes Bruce was very the same. The same lines, but it was a formula that worked. I think David Clemmer gave me the feeling he is a gay man, but that did not bother me a bit. He is a man with a lot of energy, bright eyes, a lovable man. Nice to have him as a friend I guess. But then after so many episodes there goes something wrong and I don't know what it is. Bruce seems to have lost his energy and turns out to be a boring guy. David Clemmer, who seemed to be very funny, lost the spark of his eyes. They both seems to be grown up or something. Or maybe they don't have fun in this TV series anymore. I don't know what it is, but I do know my wife and I liked the TV series a lot more when David had the spark in his eyes and he was very enthusiastic about the make-overs.

I like the show and do see dramatic changes
windsong3289922 July 2012
I have watched this show from time and time.

Contestants of the show are told that they are doing an audition for a make-over show, but what they do not know is that they've been already selected for the show.

Behind the auditioning room there is a jury and they will provide their opinions about the contestant's appearance. The juries opinions are shown to the contestants.

The opinions of the first jury are always negative.

Then, the the contestants will undergo a 7 day makeover consisting of hair style changes, dental work, clothing style changes and make up.

After the make-over, the contestants will face a brand new jury. The opinions of the new jury are always positive.

Sitting in the new jury are also someone that the contestants know, such as a husband, a parent, a sibling, a friend, a boyfriend, or an off-spring.

The contestants are always women.

I found it enjoyable and do see dramatic changes. But I do wonder if the contests have to pay for all dental work, hair styling, clothing, and make-up. That can cost a bundle.

I do have someone who may be a good candidate if it is free.
