I remembered this was shown in conjunction with the World Cup in Germany this year (2006).
I only caught the episode on the French national team about the story of their winning campaign on their home soil in the World Cup of 1998. How poignant it was, because given France 1998 was when I first get to catch the action on TV, though technically USA 1994 was the first one I knew in my memory.
And it's funny I caught the episode on TV days after Germany (the hosts for this World Cup) lost to Italy in the semi-finals.
If you had all along wondered why football (or soccer for some of you) is just so popular and had such a universal appeal, watch this and its series of episodes and you will know. I grew up having a football-crazy father and this was a way for me to understand - beyond all that footie action.
