Battle Of The Bed!
ShadeGrenade9 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
A department store is having a big sale. Joan has her heart set on a de luxe bedroom suite. Eddie thinks it a waste of money, but when Joan promises it will do wonders for their sex life, agrees to buy it. The trouble is, Bill and Barbie want it as well. Bill and Eddie camp outside the store, sleeping on the pavement, each determined to be the first inside when it opens the next day.

Eddie has Bill taken to a building site and winched several feet into the air. But victory is not his yet...

This is a remake of a 'George & The Dragon' episode entitled 'The T.V. Set', broadcast on 20/1/68. In that, George ( Sid James ) and Gabrielle ( Peggy Mount ) also camped outside a department store, hoping to buy a ( guess what? ) T.V. set. As 'G.A.T.D.' was a monochrome show, Powell and Driver probably thought it was not in danger of being seen again, hence it was okay to recycle one of the scripts. It works well enough as a 'Neighbour' episode. Presumably Bill must be a heavy sleeper as it hard to see why he does not wake up when he is lifted into the air.

Another 'Dad's Army' actor crops up - Frank Williams a.k.a. 'The Vicar', plays 'Mr.Martin' the store salesman.

Funniest moment - Bill and Eddie are arguing in the store. To claim the bed as his rightful property, the latter gets on it. Bill does the same. As they begin jostling one other, the effeminate Mr.Martin says: "Now, now, gentlemen. Wait until you get it home!".
