At least one of the story's central props, the Master's TARDIS in the form of an iron maiden, can be seen in Edmund's chamber in Born to Be King (1983), which gives more credit to the myth that the story used the same set as Blackadder.
This is one of the few stories to contain an original song - in this case, "The King's Song" by Peter Howell.
Kamelion was originally going to be played by an actor in silver make-up. But after an android prop was salvaged from a local junkyard, Mike Power, one of the show's programmers, was instructed to repurpose it so it could be used for filming. However, after the Kamelion prop was approved, Power died in a boating accident. He left no notes behind about how to control the prop, which made it extremely difficult to work with. This later led to the decision to have Kamelion only be stationary.
