The new incarnation of Cassandra Peterson’s classic horror-hostess show, Elvira’S Movie MacAbre (premiering the week of September 25 on syndicated stations across the U.S.), is a dream come true for horror fans who grew up with her sexy goofiness on their TVs. After a long, frustrating battle that has seen two films (Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark and Elvira’S Haunted Hills), one reality show (The Search For The Next Elvira) and a few failed attempts along the way, Peterson has gotten Movie MacAbre back on for what her followers are hoping is a long second run.

I recently posted my review of The Last Dance documentary Almost Beautiful (read it here), a lovely work exploring the inside of the Gothic Rock scene from the ground-up with one of the scenes better known recent acts. This week, I caught up with Rick, Jeff, and Peter for a Fangoria Musick exclusive, to get their take on the Goth Scene and to talk a little horror, including their appearance on The Search For The Next Elvira.
Doctor Raven (Fangoria): As a veteran of the Gothic Rock scene, can you please share your insights as to what makes up the key elements of Traditional Gothic Rock?
Jeff Diehm (Vocals): I’ve been doing this for about 20 years and I still don’t know how to answer that question. It’s a very non-exclusive scene, so you’ll meet all kinds of people. There’s practically no limit to...

Fox Reality has given the green light to The Search for the Next Elvira, in which the Mistress of the Dark -- portrayed by Cassandra Peterson -- will be searching for "a surrogate handmaiden with whom to share her personal appearance duties."
The series will feature 13 contestants -- culled from an open "casket call" taking place July 13 at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif. -- competing to see whether they can look the part and present the same persona as the Elvira character. Three hourlong episodes will air starting at 9 p.m. Oct. 13. After the second episode Oct. 20, viewers can vote for the winner, who will be announced during the live finale on Halloween.
The show is produced by Queen "B" Prods. and Panacea Entertainment in association with Natural 9 Entertainment. Peterson's producing partner, Panacea CEO Eric Gardner, is executive producing with Peterson, who created the character.
"We receive hundreds of Elvira appearance requests every year," Gardner said.
