Jane: [after Gray burns his skin for a trick] That is a terrible trick to do for children. What if they try and copy you?

Magician Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and partner Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) find themselves unemployed after their boss informs them that their simple magic tricks aren't what people wants anymore. The new wave comes from Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), a magician-on-the-street who seems to have more to do with torturing himself than actual magic. Soon the childhood friends are teaming up to try and get back to the top. THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE is a decent movie but at the same time you really have to be somewhat disappointed because of the talent involved. I thought there were some pretty funny moments scattered throughout the picture but the overall feel is just a tad bit too laid back for its own good and it just never seems like the film is going for enough laughs. The picture is rather uneven in its story because we basically just get several skits. The old school Carell and Buscemi will do something old school and that's supposed to make us laugh. We will then see Carrey hurt himself, which is again meant to make us laugh. Nothing really flows at a good pace and there are simply too many jokes that just aren't that funny. The major saving grace here are the performances with both Carell and Buscemi really shining in their roles. I thought both of the actors were quite funny and also shared some nice chemistry. Olivia Wilde is extremely charming in her supporting role as is James Gandolfini and Alan Arkin. Carrey also manages to be pretty memorable giving that Carrey type of performance we'd all expect. Throughout the film there are certainly some jokes that work. One highlight includes a kid's birthday party where the rival magicians get into a fight. Another memorable moment deals with Carell trying to do a magic trick for an elderly woman who doesn't know who he is. Still, with so much talent one wishes the end result would have been much better but fans of the cast will find this worth at least a rental.
