''In my day, 'talent' wasn't a word that was in the Govan Dictionary!''

Warning: Spoilers
Burney is smitten by an attractive young girl in his art class at school. To impress her, he draws her a portrait, which she greatfully accepts. Mary is called into a meeting with Burney's art teacher to discuss his work in class. His teacher reckons that he should expand his talent and attend weekend art classes.

Mary is proud of Burney's new found talent, however Rab and Gash are obviously jealous, something which Burney rubs in their faces. Indeed, such is Mary's pride in Burney's abilities, she begins treating him like a spoiled brat, however the you-know-what hits the fan when Burney discovers that the girl he has been pursuing already has a boyfriend!

Eric Cullen is superb in this classic episode, transforming from just a cheeky little sod to an arrogant, conceited twerp. Nonetheless, one can't help feeling sorry for him when he doesn't get the girl. Mary is painted out here to be something of a favourist, something that doesn't do the character justice. Mary was intended to be a sympathetic character, something which Elaine C. Smith made an important condition of her playing Mary.

Funniest bit - Burney taunting Rab about his jealously of Burney's talent. Rab eventually snaps and after snatching a paint stick from Burney's hand proceeds to jam it up his nose!
