One of the best episodes from the second hit series of 'Rab C. Nesbitt'.
Walking along by the River Clyde, Rab crosses paths with an old tramp. Taking pity on the man, Rab tries to offer him some money, however the old boy takes offence at this token and attempts to take his own life by throwing himself into the river, causing Rab to jump in after him. However, the old tramp is less than grateful towards Rab for saving his ( as he put it ) 'poxy life' and insists that as Rab is the one who saved his life, he should now take sole responsibility for the man's well being.
The old man's presence in the Nesbitt home is like that of slugs in a cabbage patch. Burney contracts ringworm, which results in him having to get his head shaved and Gash ends up catching crabs. Rab realises he needs to get rid of the old man, however he hasn't the stomach to do the task himself. Acting on advice given to him by Jamesie, he enlists the help of a hit-man.....
The late 'Callan' star Russell Hunter, for whom this was his third 'Nesbitt' appearance ( his first two being as Rab's cell mate in the pilot and 'the man in the supermarket queue' in 'Work' ), is impressive here as the scheming tramp who shamelessly plays the guilt card for all it is worth. Freddie Boardley plays the ruthless hit man who Rab hires to bump off the tramp.
Funniest bit - Rab attempting to administer mouth to mouth resuscitation to the tramp however upon seeing his mouth full of rotting teeth, he thinks better of it!
