Characters outside of "the team" were stereotypical, predictable, and not worth watching. Same for the plot. To me it was immediately obvious who the killer was -- so obvious I thought maybe they would have a surprise ending and it would be someone else. But no. This is the worst of the episodes with Burke. Once he took over Taggart's position the show started revolving around his personality and temperament instead of a good plot. And there is no longer real teamwork -- Fraser, Robbie and and Jackie now come across as merely actors walking on and off camera. There are hints that there may be more depth, then the possibility of Big Scenes for their characters happen off camera and are barely mentioned. Such as when Jackie and her husband separated. So even the main ongoing characters seem like throwaway parts.
In Penthouse and Pavement there was very little character development and only flashes of what could have given breadth to the story (like the wife of the initial victim, the interior of his house, and his career). To the point where I couldn't care that he died because I didn't KNOW anything about him. Same with the others. All very shallow.
It is like the writers were given the job of extending the series after Taggart died, and they couldn't come up with anything new. It ended up being OVER-extended. Once Burke joined the show it was all downhill. Don't bother watching unless it is just for background noise.
