This particular episode created the false notion that City of Hyattsville (MD) was crime-ridden and out of control, and when President Allen visits to talk to the "fed up residents," she meets them at a "rib shack," giving viewers the impression that the city was an urban ghetto dominated by poor minorities, with 12 murders in a very short time frame. In fact, the "real" City of Hyattsville is a very modern community, with rarely 1-2 murders a year, and looks nothing like the "Hyattsville" portrayed in the show. The residents of the Hyattsville, as well as the city and county leaders (of Hyattsville and Prince George's County) at the time, sent scathing letters to ABC complaining about the portrayal of their city, and on May 1, 2006, officials from ABC formally apologized to both.
