Augustus Aylmer calls on Father Brown for help, his adopted son John Strake has encouraged him to dabble with the occult. It isn't long before Father Brown is looking into two deaths.
One of the best in the series, it's an enjoyable mystery, one with an intriguing twist. It's well paced, with some really interesting characters. There is a real sense of imagination behind this story.
This definitely has a darker vibe than all of the previous episodes, those opening sequences set the tone very well, it's the first time in the series that Father Brown has investigated The Occult. It has some rather good visuals too.
Some fine acting throughout, T. P. McKenna is very good as Inspector Boyne, his impatience with Father Brown is well done, Victor Dobtcheff and Michael Sheard are both good also.
Very good episode, it's one of the best.
