Clark catching Lionel and Martha in a falling elevator is similar to scene in Superman II where Lois Lane is trapped in a falling elevator.
The "games" that Lionel is forced to play by a man in a mask is an obvious homage to the Saw movies
When Martha Kent is rehearsing her speech for Clark she uses the phrase "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" a reference to the 1978 Superman film where Superman tell Lois Lane that he is there to fight for "Truth, Justice, and the American Way"
In another nod to the "Saw" movies, when Lionel says to let them out of the room, "Jigsaw" says, "As you wish". That line was said repeatedly by Cary Elwes' character Westley in "The Princess Bride". Cary Elwes played Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the Saw movies and became an apprentice of Jigsaw's.
Lana's phone number is listed as 555-0164, this was also Chloe's phone number in "Cool".
