Great story, missed opportunity
evweiss76 May 2006
The comments by BushLiedMarinesDied are puzzling as it seems, just by his user ID that he has agenda having nothing to do with the film, Raid on the Reactor.

I watched the movie because I was interested in the military operation of the raid, not the political implications. What BushLiedMarinesDied fails to understand is that this movie was on the Military Channel and not Fox News or some other channel with political motives. It told the story of a fabulously executed military operation. I couldn't care less about any political aspect.

Judging from his comments, I don't think BushLiedMarinesDied even watched the movie. I think he read what the film was about and wrote a review using his anti-Israel bias as his guide. It would be akin to an anti-gay person writing a negative review of Brokeback Mountain because it was about homosexual cowboys.

As someone with a military background, I found Raid on the Reactor to be a thrilling, gripping tale of precise planning and execution. It was suspenseful and even though we knew the outcome, it was very surprising with the accounts of all the dangerous maneuvers the pilots had to execute. The music was perfect as it drove the action expertly. I thought the photography was superb and the editing was perfect for a 21st century audience.

My only complaint was that the film did not address the possibility of Israel conducting a similar raid on Iran, now that the Israelis are facing the same danger. I thought the producers missed a great opportunity to ask the Israelis what they thought of the current situation with Iran. That would have made it relevant to today.

Fascinating telling of a not-so-well-known event
SpikeHat26 August 2010
I saw this on the Military Channel. The story fascinated me because I had never heard of this mission to destroy an Iranian nuke plant. It was a top secret operation, but I did not know it had happened. The backstory was well put-together. Saddam's involvement made it all the more compelling. I did not know much about The Mossad before this; those guys were bad-asses! The way that the Israeli Air Force prepared for the raid expressed the desperation of their situation. Quite dramatic up to the finish. It is intriguing that a member of this Raid was on the ill-fated Space Shuttle mission. Conspiracy theorists might scratch their heads on that one.

A fascinating and intense look at a top-secret military strike
Jayhawk8194 May 2006
As someone who is not interested in military stories of violence, I could not help but enjoy this documentary from start to finish. I feel the release of this documentary is most prevalent today because of the events taking place in Iran with their nuclear program and open hatred for Israel. I feel that the documentary is successful because it is not filled with propaganda, but rather shows the intense sequence of events that Israelis had to go through to ensure both the success of the military strike and the safety of their country and its people.

Regardless of ones opinion on the current state of things in the Middle East, the means by which the Israelis went about this mission is simply incredible. It shows how sharp and tactful the Israelis were in their military strike which did not target innocent people. The minimal amount of civilian casualties, the window of opportunity that allowed the mission to be a success and the extreme measures by which the mission worked, astonished me in both the fact that this actually took place and that there hasn't been a Hollywood movie about this attack yet.

This documentary was so interesting to watch especially after viewing Steven Spielberg's Munich. I enjoyed Munich, but this documentary provided the facts and information that shows the means by which Israel goes to protect itself and its people. A piece like Munich tackles issues dealing with the chaos that has plagued the Middle East in regards to Jewish occupation. But Raid on the Reactor brings with it little bias views and a nerve-racking story, telling of a mission that I couldn't believe actually took place.

In reading reviews of this piece, I would simply ignore the comments of BushLiedMariesDied, for his issues seem to be not with this actual piece, but with the state of Israel and Jews overall. After reading his comments I couldn't help but think he hasn't even seen this wonderful piece. According to The Discovery Military Channel's website, the documentary will be showing throughout the month of May. I would suggest that if the channel is available to you, watch this piece. It will astonish you, especially in a time when America is involved in such sloppy and confusing war. The only critique I have of the piece is not with director Steve Feld, but with the Discovery Channel for not airing this documentary on their main channel.
