This was my first episode of, "A Play For Today," and it was thoroughly entertaining. "A Cotswold Death," has a real Agatha Christie feel to it, with lots of twists and turns.
A family of extremely wealthy oil Shieks come to England once or twice a year, so their mother can go shopping, and the family can enjoy the English countryside. For this reason, they have bought a country estate, with permeant servants, even though they are only here a few weeks out of the year.
Two brothers accompany their parents on these trips, both educated in England, so of course they enjoy cricket. They organize a match, and during the game, someone dies in an impossible circumstance. A hard nose detective is called in, along with a clueless Sergeant. He has very little time to not only figure out the who, but also the how, since the how seems impossible. There are many suspects, the servants, one of the brother's English girlfriend, the family members themselves, etc.
There's a lot of good acting here, and faces you'll recognize, it's a fun stone cold whodunit.
I've since watched another episode of this series, "A Play for Today," called, "The Photograph." It was also excellent, albeit in a different Hitchcockian way.
I definitely recommend this series, based on what I've seen so far. It is so sad that so many of the episodes were destroyed by the BBC, they should be ashamed of themselves.
