Natalie (Jean Byron) is planning a vacation for Martin's birthday. She has reserved the same cottaged they honeymooned in at Lake George. She has forgotten a fishing license and asks Patty to pick one up after school. At work, Martin and his boss J.R. discuss doing an editorial over Martin's concern in the increase of teenage marriages. J.R. is having lunch at City Hall with the mayor and overhears Patty and Richard leaving the license bureau. Their conversation about Martin's surprise leaves J.R. mistakenly believing the couple is eloping. He tells Martin that Patty is getting married Saturday and hiding the license in the honeymoon cottage. J.R. suggests not forbidding the marriage for fear of a tragic Romeo and Juliet situation. Martin and J.R. spy on Patty and Richard whose conversation confirms their marriage plans in their minds. They are shocked to find Natalie is onboard with the plan. Martin's plan is to scare Richard from the idea. Their conversation comically makes Richard think Martin is encouraging they get married. Martin becomes increasingly worried, leading to more direct actions.
