Mike and Gloria find that they are at odds with one another over the prospect of having a baby. Gloria sees a future with children but Mike doesn't want kids because he can't bear to bring a child into the world with all of the problems, both socially and environmentally. Gloria talks to Edith who encourages her that having children is a woman's function, but Gloria decides that she needs to be a person before becoming a mother. In the end, Edith is puzzled but Archie explains that the best method is to throw Gloria's birth control pills out the window, letting them work on The Jefferson's cat instead.
