- Homer and Bart are eager to go to a Monster Truck rally where a giant robot creation named "Truck-a-Saurus" will be performing. However, the same night the family has to go to Lisa's music recital. Marge explains that they can most likely do both, since Lisa's recital is at 5pm, and the rally is at 8pm.
The family goes to Lisa's concert, but almost misses the monster truck rally. However, due to Homer taking a wrong turn, he drives into the arena, and the family in their car is battered about by Truck-a-Saurus.
After the family is freed from their vehicle and joins the stands, the audience is soon treated Captain Lance Murdock, who pulls a daredevil stunt that almost kills him. Bart is soon enamored by this and tells Homer he wants to be a daredevil. Homer just jokingly laughs.
The next day, Bart sets a ramp up against the front of the family car, attempting to jump over it with his skateboard, with some of his classmates nearby. When Bart ends up injuring himself, his 'friends' quickly scatter.
Later at the hospital, Dr Hibbert shows Bart and the other Simpson family a special ward where children have been injured based on things they saw on TV or through other popular media.
Bart tells Dr Hibbert that he's learned his lesson, but shortly afterwards, Bart attempts to jump the family car a second time. This time, he succeeds. In the aftermath, Bart begins to jump his skateboard over a number of things, from dogs to a swimming pool. However, after some time, Bart has grown bored and wants to find a new challenge. He gets it when his class takes a field trip to Springfield gorge.
On the bus home, Bart announces to the school bus of his planned jump over the gorge. Lisa takes Bart to Dr Hibbert, who introduces them to Lance Murdock at the hospital, still recovering from his recent injuries. Lisa explains to Lance what Bart wants to do, and is shocked when Lance actually encourages Bart to make the gorge jump. Now very worried about her brother, Lisa tells the Simpson family once they get home. Homer forbids Bart from jumping the gorge, but Bart insists he's going to do it anyways. Homer eventually attempts a heart-to-heart talk with Bart, and it almost seems like it works...until Bart sneaks out, and Homer finds him gone.
Homer manages to get to the gorge just in time to prevent Bart from going over. Homer then takes Bart's skateboard, and plans to jump the gorge himself to show Bart how wrong he is. However, Bart knows that Homer won't make it, and this time promises to stop. However, as the two reconcile, Homer ends up rolling down an embankment, and flying over the gorge. It almost looks like he'll make it, when he suddenly plummets down the gorge.
Sometime afterward, Homer is lifted into an ambulance...which promptly crashes, causing the rear doors to pop open, sending Homer back down into the gorge.
Homer eventually ends up in a bed next to Lance Murdock, and snidely remarks: "You think you've got guts? Try raising my kids!"
