I really wish I could be one of then people that claims they got in on this band before they started to hit it big. The first album of their that hit my ears was Committed to a Bright Future, and after that I was hooked. But being a movie review, I shall leave the music critique to others.
The documentary surrounding the concert is decent as far as a day in the life of a band goes, but the real focus is on the concert itself. Although it is worth noting that local residents may notice a few landmarks as DFD goes on with their day.
Having seen DFD live at Fletchers a few times I can say they did an amazing job capturing the strength of their live performances and the intimacy of the space. The music sounds great, with clear vocals and instruments, and lacking the ear ringing deafness of seeing the first 7 bands perform. Their cover of Nirvana's Breed is good, but lately they've been tossing in Metallica songs which sound even better through their unique musical lens. DFD does quite a bit of audience participation, and no matter how good, a DVD cannot capture the wonderment of having them stage an impromptu talent show and watching some kid try to light his pubes on fire (trust me, I saw it and can't unsee it).
I recommend this DVD to any fans of the band, but I urge you to see them live and in person at Fletchers. Nothing beats seeing a band in their home turf.
