Meh, not what I expected it to be
feralasar11 January 2019
I saw this movie on youtube expecting it be a very funny B movie, as I love very funny campy B movies.

I want my 1 hour wasted on this movie back, as not only was it mostly not funny, but it was a huge bore fest as well. I mean there are a few parts I find kinda funny, like the ending as well as a few scenes, but mostly this movie was stupid as well as being mostly boring.

I honestly hope the sequel that is being made is honestly way better than this one , as honestly I am probably not gonna watch this movie ever again as I just don't like it at all.

unironically entertaining

While this film may be entertaining and at times even funny, it may also be slightly homophobic, but im not totally sure about that last part.

"movie" is the wrong word for this

Warning: Spoilers
I love bad, campy movies so much that an employee at my neighborhood video store told me I just had to see "Yeti: A Love Story." I thought maybe I'd discovered another "Shock Treatment" or "Female Trouble," something low-budget, awful and yet wonderful.

Wrong. And having just lost 1.5 hours and $3.50 to "Yeti," I'm offering up this comment to counter-balance the other IMDb review, which is so sycophantic that it must have been written by the director's mother (it's clearly not authored by the director himself, as it exhibits far more cogency and editing than anything evidenced by "Yeti.") Spoiler Below: This isn't really a movie. It's a long, tedious and painful video shot by some narcissist who thinks his friends are hilarious, and his vision is worthy of other people's time, yet "Yeti" display no attention to the technical aspects of movie making (and I don't mean high-brow film making, but basic stuff, like microphones so the watcher can hear what's being said on-screen) that would make his movie possible to endure. Twisted gay sex between a closeted frat douche and a mythological creature could be funny, campy, obscene, even arousing, or at least interesting, but this was just boring or painful to watch. A fight scene between a manic-fingering "Piss God" and lipstick lezzie ninjas could totally save a movie, but not in fatuous version presented here.

I'm Not Sure What Just Happened
sacredcandle14 January 2013
Okey dokey, I should start by saying that I stumbled on this in the "free movies" section of OnDemand, so I almost have no right to say anything derogatory. It was free, I could have shut it off but my girlfriend was loving the sheer...what's even the right word? Camp? Perhaps camp fits. The truth is if they shot this thing for $200 which it appears they did, then you have to give them some credit for that alone. So there's the good news. In an age of digital cameras and editing on your home computer, pretty much anybody with some willing friends and one has to suppose a lot of beer can make a feature length.....piece.

Now here's where I agree with the other reviewer who wasn't so kind to this thing. This isn't a movie...it's a YouTube video that goes on waaaaaaay too long. I didn't think for a red second after the start that I was watching anything other than some weird thing you could get in three minutes total on YT. I don't know what the point of this movie was, it was just so completely bizarre and amateurish that you couldn't help but think these people just got together and made it up as they went along. Well, there are cases in history where such freewheeling methods work. Surely Monty Python's non-sequiters were the stuff of legend and unscripted hilarity ensued. No so much here. The Python's were comedic gems and that just isn't true of the Yeti crew. They pretty clearly didn't have a script and if they did it was no more than a framework and leaving that much open to people who really need direction is a train wreck here. There's no structure to anything which gets old fast and while many of these scenarios in the film could be funny in some kind of context, I didn't laugh at anything here at all in a genuine way. I said "whaaaaat???" a lot.

I was worried from the outset what the Yeti would look like since that was a central character and this is LOW budget stuff we're talking about here. You can't just get a convincing Yeti costume at WalMart. You be the final judge of this aspect cause I won't spoil any of this for someone who might gain even an ounce of pleasure out of it.But the point is if this was condensed to 10 minutes and put on YouTube it might be funny...or weird...or SOMETHING. But as it is, this is something for friends and family only; a project a bunch of kids-turned-middle-aged-adults can look back on in 20 years time and say "Wow, remember when we did that?" Other than that it's an almost unwatchable wreck of tasteless humor, over the top fake violence, there's a fair dose of sacrilege in it, you never know who is doing what or why,and as far as beginning/middle/end is concerned, just forget it. Three act structure wasn't studied by any participant. But hey, if you can come across it free somewhere, watch a few minutes of it and make up your own mind.

Totally Bizarre Fun
alassenamos12 August 2008
"Yeti: A Love Story" Totally Bizarre Fun Amos Lassen It is so good that gay filmmakers have reached the point that that they will deal with any subject and any genre. We know this was not always true and gay film has come a long way in the last few years and we have gay slasher films, gay detective stories, gay science fiction, etc. Now we have something completely new in "Yeti: A Love Story" about a gay monster and while I would not classify this as a good film but it is completely entertaining and fun.

The storyline is about five college students who go on a camping trip that leads them to a horrible secret. When one of the guys is brutally murdered, the remaining four have no way home and they have to battle an evil cult and a very hungry gay Yeti. I know this sounds ridiculous but hold on and let me have my say.

This is one of the strangest films I have ever seen and when it was over I had to ask myself if I had really seen it. I thought perhaps I had dreamt the entire experience until I looked at my DVD player and there was the movie.

I suppose that everyone knows that Yeti is the abominable snowman that is said to live in the Himalayas somewhere around Nepal and Tibet. I do not think that many know, however, that Yeti is not a murderer who simply kills those who get in his way but a homosexual whose desire it is to penetrate people anally. (At least that this is the premise of Adam Deyoe and Eric Gosselin who wrote, produced and directed this film).

When the movie begins we see a group of people dressed in red masks and white cloaks chanting "Praise the Yeti!" as they tie a male to a tree in a suggestive position. After the banging of a gong, Yeti is brought out and enters the victim with such force that blood flows from his mouth. (I know, I know this sounds crazy).

We fast forward to the present day which in the film is 1985 and meet five college guys on their way to go camping. They stop at a gas station and witness some really strange goings on that I dare not mention for fear of spoiling your fun. After filling up, the guys go into the woods and set up camp and talk foolishly about nothing of importance. When one of the friends goes in search of firewood, he accidentally kills himself while running from animal noises and missing getting shot by what turns out to be a Yeti hunter. The four guys that are left discover that there is a cult called "Children of the Yeti" that sacrifices young males to be raped by Yeti (Yeti is something of a chicken queen). The friends call on their inner strengths and try to stop this terrible practice but…..you guessed it….Yeti notices one of the quartet and the guy and the beast fall in love. (They have sex, share chocolate, talk about the future and no, I am not making this up). This love affair is not good for the guys in red and white because they lose their hold on Yeti if he falls in love.

I have to admit that this is a really strange film and I am not really sure what to say about it because I enjoyed it. Sure it is silly and outrageous but it is meant to be. There is so much foolishness here that it is hard to remember it all---the gas station scene is totally off the wall, crazy cults and churches, a lesbian pillow fight, truly kinky sex. I can't believe I watched this pastiche of bad taste but even worse is that I can't believe I enjoyed it.

Let's take a look at the characters. Adam, one of the guys, had some really great lines which make you groan and he fell love with Yeti which caused him to look like less the bigot and jerk that he was. Dick plays the straight man who is the geek of the group until he falls in love with a seductress from the Yeti group and they had some really kinky sex before he was to be sacrificed to the beast. The two women became lesbians after a pillow fight after having sex with the men and it just gets wilder and wilder.

There is a great deal of explicitness here and lots of penis shots and the editing is quite funny while the direction is quite good and the actors…..what can I say?....they acted. There is also a great deal of gore which was totally low budget.

I am closing this review by saying again that this is the weirdest film I have ever seen. It is a total "B" movie, the kind of movie to watch when you are really desperate and have nothing to do. If you refuse to take it seriously, you will have a great time. I hate myself for saying this but I had a ball with "Yeti".
