- Debra and the children bet against Raymond all the time. He is upset when he finds out because they make fun of him. Then he remembers that Marie used to do things like that with him and Robert about their father when they were young.
- Ray realizes that Debra places bets with the kids on his questionable behavior traits. This includes stuff like whether or not he would notice Debra's new haircut, how long he will take in the bathroom, what he will forget in grocery, what time will he actually be back home from work (which is funny as Ray is always so late) and will he do the laundry. Ray is disgusted that his own children now think he's a "Doofus". Ray tries to make bets with the kids about Debra's habits. He suggests a bet to turn on the TV and how long it would take for Debra to yell "Turn it off". The kids say that Debra's bets are funny.
Ray objects to the fact in Robert and Marie's presence. He says that the kids used to think he is superman, but now Debra has slowly turned them against him. Debra complains that Ray always makes jokes about her, but Ray says that those jokes are always with his friends and not in front of impressionable children. Debra says she tried to talk to Ray about his issues, but Ray never listened and so she started making some jokes with the kids, but it's nothing serious. She says that if the kids do not consider Ray to be a superman, that is because Ray is never home. Marie says that Ray is a good boy and a great father. She challenges Debra to change places with her to see what Frank was like.
Marie and Frank's comments on it make Ray realize that Marie did the same with them in their childhood. Ray remembers that Marie would sit him down every Saturday (when Frank was at the lodge) and talk about how bad Frank was. Ray and Robert realize that their hatred for Frank might not be natural and might have been planted by 45 years of back talk by Marie. Marie says that she couldn't talk to Frank and Ray was all she had. Robert is upset that Marie never had this discussion with him. Ray and Robert decide to apologize to Frank.
Ray and Robert then try to bond with Frank. Ray tells Frank about what Marie used to do behind his back, turning the kids against him. He complains that now Debra is also doing the same thing, turning Michael, Geoffrey and Ally against him. Frank says he was aware of Marie's backtalk and didn't bother since Marie was going to be angry no matter what she did. So, he never gave 2 hoots.
Ray and Robert can see that Frank is a slob. Ray and Debra both realize their mistake towards each other. Ray realizes that he is a Doofus and promises Debra to try harder around the house. Debra promises to talk up Ray more, but he insists that she do it right then, even though Debra says that it is not a natural situation and might feel a bit forced and awkward. Ray makes Debra do it and when she does (Debra says that Ray is cool, is a great guy, works very hard, has fun with the kids and they are lucky to have him) the kids just laugh her off. But eventually they turn around.
