King Lear II

In the mid 1980s, a television critic bemoaned about the lack of good comedy on British television. Robert Lindsay is the answer but he's gone all Shakespearean.

Maybe writer Paul Makin read the article.

Playing to the strengths of the main leads. The episode is a pastiche of King Lear.

It is the Sarge's birthday and it is not much of a party for him. He suggests that if he ever called it a day. Head office will not look outside for a replacement.

This leads Bell and Carter to scheme and try to drive Sarge mad.

They succeed. The Sarge announces that it is time for him to call it a day.

However Eric Swan returns as a security guard. He has given up on medical school as he cannot stand the sight of blood. It is also a full moon and the Sarge rather likes Eric.

You can sense the actors are having fun with the words of the Bard. Another zany episode and rather bloodsoaked as Eric has a funny turn.

This is actor Ian Sears last credited acting role as Eric. He is now a renowned editor of reality shows and quiz shows in Hollywood.
