"The Soft Touch" is an interesting twist for "Racket Squad" in that it turns out that the case involves a bunch of cons trying to out-con each other! And, it's solved in the end by Captain Braddock and some magic! The show begins with four people meeting each other during a fire. They quickly strike up a friendship and agree to meet the next day for lunch. At this luncheon, the Merchant Marine man tells the other three that he's got a shipment of smuggled seal skins--and he'll sell them for dirt cheap. However, there is a catch--and you really don't know who is exactly scamming who until the end.
This is a good episode in most ways. The plot is very interesting and seeing the twists and turns made this one worth seeing. The only negative is when Captain Braddock shows up at the end--as if by magic. In fact, I suspect magic because it really was not reasonable for him to come there at the exact right time when he had few, if any, clues to work with and shouldn't have even been aware of the criminals. This takes an exceptional episode to the average category.
