Bugs & BB

I thought the challenge would be more interesting than episode 1, but it was literally just eating one kind of bug. That's so boring.

This show is like a time capsule. It's really odd to see how the tribe members talk about homosexuality in a way that seems so dated, even though this was in the year 2000. Shocking how much attitudes have changed in 20 years.

The elimination was also really uneventful and not surprising.

Hopefully once the chaff is gone the series will get more exciting.

Bits of Drama Starting to Unfold
Writer_Commentary20 September 2022
There are some things to like about this episode, but a lot of it are still not as good as they could be. I do like how we get our first real sense of drama on this show without it being manufactured by production in the form of a twist. Obviously, we aren't going to get into twists this early into the show. B. B. Is the main instigator of the problems on his tribe simply by being himself. That's part of the reason that casting makes the choices that it did as they wouldn't ever put a cohesive group together for everything to be Kumbaya. I hate that the first ever reward challenge isn't in this episode. It was edited out for one reason or another. I guess that the episode flowed smoother without it leaving more time for drama and character development. The immunity challenge is much better handled in future seasons. The tribal council isn't much of anything with too much of the results seeming predictable.

A great season gimmick with a underwhelming boot

Warning: Spoilers
I really like the pre merge long gag that comes up with this episode. That being of the Superpole 2000, and how horrible it is to catch fish or anything for that matter. It adds a bit of life and character to the cast, especially the Tagi tribe. But the eliminated contestant this episode, BB, was not really somebody I cared much for, and I can see why he was voted off. Although in hindsight it can be argued that was a bad choice since he was the hardest worker around camp, and probably would have been more help in challenges than some others. But in all fairness he really did kind of dig his grave with his personality.
