- "Denn Senshi Porygon" (Denn Senshi Porigon) or as it is commonly called 'Electric Soldier Porygon' was meant to be episode 38 in the first Pokemon season, however upon its first broadcast in Japan, a record number of children suffered seizures, although most cases were mild, 2 children remained in hospital for 2 weeks. This was due flashing red and blue lights about 18 minutes into the episode.
This episode has never been broadcast since and never been seen outside of Japan, meaning many Pokemon fans have never seen this episode, even though a dubbed version was made and the flashing lights slowed down.
The episode begins with Satoshi, Takeshi and Kasumi heading to the Pokemon center, upon arrival they discover that Nurse Joy is having trouble with the Pokemon transfer system, leaving thousands of Pokemon trapped in the system and trainers receiving the wrong or no Pokemon.
The team, on Nurse Joys advice, head to Professor Akihabara who is the creator of the system, he has created a vaccine to slove the problem but has discovered humans inside the system who will die if the vaccine is used, Satoshi and the gang discover the humans inside are team rocket and the Professor uses his new invention (the Human Transfer System) to send Satoshi and the gang inside to get team rocket out, The Professor gives them his Porygon to help them on this mission.
Once inside, they used the Porygon to fight Team Rocket and the Porygon they have stolen, the team win and start setting the Pokemon free. Meanwhile the Professor discovers that Nurse Joy has released her own anti virus vaccine into the system and the gang have to escape or face being erased forever.
Using the Porygon, they save Team Rocket and begin their escape back to the portal with the anti virus weapon chasing after them, Pikachu uses his Thunderbolt attack to stop the vaccine rockets, causing an explosion just as the gang escapes (it was this scene the flashing lights were used).
They make it back to the Professor, having managed to destroy his Human Transfer System in the process, Team Rocket make a quick exit and Satoshi and the gang continue on their way.
Although this episode was English dubbed and the lights slowed down, this episode was cut from season 1 for good and never showed again (although it can be watched on many websites). Since then no episode has ever featured Porygon or its advanced forms, in an attempt to move away from what happened. However several other episodes have been banned as well or certain scenes cut and in some countries earlier seasons of Pokemon are never repeated.
