The Best Mike and Gloria episode
Jimmy_the_Gent43 December 2017
Archie and Edith are out for the evening and Mike and Gloria have an argument about who should be the romantic aggressor in the marriage.

Sally Struthers is at her sexiest at this time so I am not sure why Mike would be complaining! Still even though Archie and Edith are absent for the majority of the episode, this has some good laughs due to the chemistry between Reiner and Struthers. Both of them storm out of the house and return with stories about what they did while they were gone. Mike has a hilarious reaction to Gloria's tale. They soon make up and of course are caught by Archie at that moment. He says "They been at it since we left!".

Mixed feelings

Tremendous acting from Rob Rein'er and Sally Struthers. But, just not that funny. Some mild humor. But, not what you'd expect from AITF in it's heyday. Not AITF's worst either.

I watched this in amazement

Watching two liberals fight is a fascinating thing to witness. Neither one is right in their argument so it's a lot of fun to watch them out scream each other's point of view while insisting their's is the right one while the other is wrong.

Mike plays this open minded liberal to the world, but not too far below the surface lies an Archie Bunker. He believes a man and wife shouldn't have sex unless the husband initiates it and feels emasculated when his wife initiates. Good lord. It's such stone age thinking.

Gloria is no better, although I am on her side in this argument. She screams like a child having a tantrum at him rather than like a mature adult, until the both of them finally storm out of the house in a childish huff when their crazy argument reaches a fever pitch that probably woke up the Jeffersons on one side and the Lorenzos on the other.

And the fake stories they give each other of what they did after leaving the house only underscores the immaturity of both of them. How these two characters stayed together so long is a mystery to me since we've seen time and time again throughout the series that they're so incompatible with each other.

If you enjoy 30 minutes of two immature people screaming at each other, you'll love this episode.
