- Mabel Wheeler: Mrs Lipton, there's a dead parrot in the larder.
- Mrs. Blanche Lipton: Yes. I know.
- Mabel Wheeler: You gonna do one of your curries?
- Mabel Wheeler: Making a nice cup of cocoa are you?
- Mrs. Blanche Lipton: Yes, Mabel.
- Mabel Wheeler: Very comforting before you go to bed; cream off the top of the milk... plenty of sugar. Very soothing... especially if you have to go through the cold streets. I can't remember the last time I had a nice cup of cocoa!
- Mrs. Blanche Lipton: I've got something for you, Mabel, that will keep you warm
- Mabel Wheeler: [expecting to be offered a nice cup of cocoa] Oh, thanks!
- Mrs. Blanche Lipton: That old hat of mine. I got it from the back of the wardrobe, I brought it down for you. It'll keep your head warm.
- Mabel Wheeler: That'll be nice.
- Mrs. Blanche Lipton: Moths have been at it I'm afraid.
- Mabel Wheeler: [examining the hat and putting it on - it's too big] Never mind. They haven't eaten much
- Mrs. Blanche Lipton: Haven't you got a small head, Mabel!
- [James and Alf have donned their old army uniforms for the funeral service of Lady Lavender's parrot]
- James Twelvetrees: [smugly] You've put a bit of weight on since you last wore that uniform.
- Alf Stokes: Mind your own business!
