Great as always

As usual a brilliantly witty and politically astute episode. Just wanted to point out the brief presence of Brenda Blethyn as an MP though the role isn't a taxing one and doesn't exploit her talents. Also near the end Spike Milligan has the briefest of cameos, non-speaking and in flat caps as two different demonstrators applauding a decision.

Hacker the hero
snoozejonc16 April 2021
Hacker has to make a decision regarding a factory producing a potentially dangerous chemical.

This is a strong episode that puts Hacker in the position of having to make a decision that, regardless of the what he chooses, will aggravate somebody.

As ever the Humphery v Hacker theme runs strong as both are under pressure from different sides of the argument.

There are a number of funny moments, some quite cringe worthy as both men have their ignorance of chemistry exposed when challenged. The eventual path that Hacker takes is devious in a highly comical way. The dialogue is excellent throughout as always.

Paul Eddington is brilliant with Nigel Hawthorne and Derek Fields also in good form.

It's an 8.5/10 for me but I round upwards.

Political pole

Warning: Spoilers
So true that reaching the top of politics is like climbing a greasy pole, and once you're there, for most at the top, it ends in tears. Anyway, here Jim if faced with political consequences about a dangerous chemical that the public are very scared of for sure.

Jonathan Lynn co-created and co-wrote Yes, Minister with Antony Jay. Interestingly, Antony Jay received a knighthood to become Sir Antony Jay but to this day Jonathan Lynn hasn't. Yet Jonathan Lynn went on to direct Clue, Nuns on the Run, My Cousin Vinny, and The Whole Nine Yards so it's strange init that Jonathan has been overlooked for a knighthood.
