In the beginning when Mulder and Scully are driving along the road approaching the crash site of McAlpin's vehicle, the passing landscape seen through the car windows appears sunlit, with dappled green grass and foliage visible. However when they stop and get out to examine the scene, the sky is gray and overcast, all the grass is yellow, and, except for one evergreen, all the trees are bare.
