Arye Gross performed the narration for the pilot when it originally aired. However, Arye's narration was later removed and replaced with Daniel Stern's voice when the pilot aired in reruns.
According to Bob Brush, he later confirmed that yes, the show setting was in Southern California. He says, "During that time frame, many people like Jack Arnold came home from the war, took jobs with defense contractors, and settled in the suburbs outside Los Angeles. While we never confirm this is the setting, there are plenty of hints throughout that this is indeed the location."
In the Pilot episode, Fred Savage (Kevin) and Danica McKellar (Winnie) shared their very first kiss. However, the kiss shown in the episode is not their actual first kiss. They filmed six takes, and the last take, where Kevin stroked Winnie's hair, appears as the ending.
Arye Gross, who narrated this episode during its first airing in January 1988, and Daniel Stern who narrated all subsequent episodes and whose voice remixed over Gross's in all rebroadcasts of this episode, played brothers in Coupe de Ville (1990).
At the beginning, this is the only episode where, when characters come into the kitchen from the back door, the refrigerator is on the right side of the room and the stove is on the left side. However, the entryway to the dining room is on the right. For the rest of the series, the refrigerator is on the left and the stove is on the right, and the entryway to the dining room is on the left.
