Jack is duly not amused that Cuban Danny's patronizing attitude worsens their Mexican hosts' suspicion when they travel there to help -without jurisdiction- 'federales' captain Hector Cruz investigate the skull-masked kidnapping for ransom of rich emigrated US citizen James Costin, whose wife Lucy refuses to work with police, but informed her mother in law. The victim's maid Rosa Escobar arouses suspicion by pretending she's Salvadoran, not Mexican, and was the only person already in the home when James's first wife and her rich family were murdered in a similar crime, while his sister Victoria contested the will albeit only against Lucy sharing. Teaming up awkwardly with Cruz, with New York research, the team finds out dirty secrets and other crimes in Mexico, yielding new angles and suspects, as confirmed in a bloody finale after Lucy is forced to accept police help having been wounded in a failed first ransom delivery having been imposed an extra $100,000 and handed a freshly-cut finger.
