Quotes

  • Jack Malone : Quite the struggle.

Martin Fitzgerald : Yeah. Looks like she was grabbed here, dropped the bow. No one on the stage saw her, so she must have been carried out through that emergency exit door there.

Jack Malone : What about the alarm?

Martin Fitzgerald : It was turned off. That's the door everyone uses to catch a smoke in the alley.

    Jack Malone : Mm.

Martin Fitzgerald : We also found this backstage pass. There's no ID on it. The elastic band is torn, so it must have come off during the struggle.

Jack Malone : Must have been an inside job. It's a pretty risky plan.

Martin Fitzgerald : Oh, uh, one other thing: her violin's missing. A performer at her level, that violin's worth a hell of a lot of money, so maybe the perp was actually after the instrument, she put up a big fight, and he said "Heck with it. Let's grab her, too."

Jack Malone : Well, let's hope it's not just about the violin. If it is, they have no need for her now.

  • Martin Fitzgerald : Okay, the backstage pass we found in her dressing room, it was forged.

Jack Malone : Eh, it's a holographic image. Has to be the work of a pro. We should keep an eye for anyone that might have skills in graphic design. Uh, any news on the violin?

Martin Fitzgerald : Oh, yeah. This baby's got quite a bit of history. The Amatti violin, nicknamed the Serafina, built in 1624, it's worth a quarter of a million bucks, and it was a gift from her first mentor.

Jack Malone : It's probably doubled in value since it's been splattered all over the media.

Martin Fitzgerald : Right. I've got calls in to some high-end violin dealers.

    Jack Malone : Any bites?

Martin Fitzgerald : I'll tell you, there's a definite black market here, so I don't think it's gonna take long for some greedy soul to show up.

  • Danny Taylor : How's everything going on your end?

Martin Fitzgerald : Good. I'm setting up a meeting with a violin dealer. I tell you, these guys run a very tight network.

    Danny Taylor : Mm-hmm.

Martin Fitzgerald : Almost all of it's word of mouth. Anything good in the fan mail?

Danny Taylor : Actually, these are from this one Russian guy. Listen to this. "I have been following your career since you were a little girl. I know every move you make when you play. It would mean so much for me to meet you."

    Martin Fitzgerald : That's creepy.

Danny Taylor : Mm-hmm. Listen to this one. It's from four weeks ago. "I come to all of your concerts, but it is impossible to talk to you. I am desperate to meet you, Natasha. I will do what I can to make this happen."

Martin Fitzgerald : That's even creepier. What do we got on this guy?

Danny Taylor : His name's Ivan Breznev. He has a PO box in Brooklyn. I sent someone over there to see if I can get an address. Hopefully, I will.

  • Martin Fitzgerald : [overhearing Viv on the phone]  Everything all right?

    Vivian Johnson : [tersely]  Uh-huh.

Martin Fitzgerald : Care to talk about it?

Vivian Johnson : It's Reggie. It's like every year, it gets harder. What, with the acting out, the talking back. Last week, he called me a bitch.

    Martin Fitzgerald : Uh-oh. What'd you do?

Vivian Johnson : I almost hit him. I don't know what to do.

Martin Fitzgerald : Not that it's any consolation, imagine how much harder it would be if he was making a million bucks a year.

Vivian Johnson : Harder on him or harder on me?

    Martin Fitzgerald : Good question.

  • Martin Fitzgerald : [watching a witness with a sketch artist]  He said the guy had a Russian accent and a beard and a leather jacket.

Jack Malone : Well, that describes about half the male population of Brighton Beach.

  • Martin Fitzgerald : All right, well, the apartment didn't tell us much. Couple of old shirts in the closet, coffee maker on the table, no plane tickets, no bus schedules, no receipts.

Danny Taylor : Isn't it so much easier when they leave the Amtrak schedule right on the coffee table, and they've gone as far as circling the getaway train in bright red ink?

  • Aleksander Denisovich : [admitting he kidnapped Natasha]  That was no life for her like that. I was only trying to save her.

Danny Taylor : Exactly how long ago did she run away from you?

Aleksander Denisovich : M-m-maybe 30 minutes. I've been everywhere in the neighborhood, and-and I don't know where she is.

Danny Taylor : What was she wearing?

Aleksander Denisovich : Um, an old blue shirt of mine and, uh, some jeans I bought for her.

Martin Fitzgerald : Does she have any money on her?

Aleksander Denisovich : She took what I made from the violion; $100,000.

Martin Fitzgerald : Oh, you got ripped off, my friend.
