Summaries

  • Brian gets nervous when he sees Fay's double - the "Culinary Killer"- on television.

Synopsis

  • Brian and Joe need to have their house fumigated for roaches. Joe makes arrangements to stay with his girlfriend Helen for a few days, but Brian doesn't have anywhere to stay. After turning down offers from both Lowell and Roy, he agrees to stay at Fay's house.

In the meantime, Lowell informs everyone that his wife Bunny is selling hi-quality frying pans but no one is interested in buying them. What Lowell doesn't realize is that selling the pans is a scam: his wife paid full price for them on a whim with the seller taking all the money for themselves and leaving Bunny to get her money back by selling them to friends. Roy suggests that Lowell take the pans to the local swap meet and sell them there. Lowell happily says he will since that's where his wife got them in the first place.

Brian finds that staying at Fay's house is a pleasant experience: she pampers him constantly, making him nice meals, hot cocoa and that she is quite a baker. Fay seems to enjoy the company, telling Brian that she used to take in boarders before she was married. While relaxing and watching his favorite TV show, Fugitives From Justice (hosted by Maury Povich), he sees a piece on a woman, Florence Chambers, aka "The Culinary Killer", who used her knowledge of cooking to murder several men that she also took in as boarders. After a few moments, a older photo of Chambers is shown and then aged using computer graphics, until it resembles Fay. Brian his horrified.

At the airport the next day, Lowell talks to Roy and tells him he traded in the frying pans for a better product to sell: the Car-B-Que, a device that cooks food on a car's engine. Roy is skeptical but then agrees to buy one from Lowell and try it out. The next time he sees Lowell he reports that the Car-B-Que is a fine product and that he plans to drive to Virginia to see if it'll cook a Peking Duck.

Brian sneaks into the airport and talks privately with Joe and Helen about seeing Fay's picture on TV and that she's wanted for murder. Joe and Helen refuse to believe him, despite Brian's theories and insistence. Brian later shows them a bottle of rat poison he found at her house and gets Fay to talk a little about her past such as cities she used to live in. Joe and Helen still see it as fantasy and coincidence. Fay then mentions that for Brian's last night at her house, she'd like to make him a leg of lamb for dinner. Brian becomes very nervous, remembering that the TV report mentioned Chambers had beaten one of her victims to death with a frozen leg of lamb.

At Fay's house that night, Brian, more paranoid than ever, impulsively invites Joe and Helen to join him. While they scoff at Brian's neurotic behavior, Fay suddenly asks Brian if he can help her in the kitchen. The garbage disposal in her sink needs to be reset and the switch is under the sink where she has trouble reaching. Brian reluctantly crawls under the sink. Fay takes the leg of lamb out of her freezer and as Brian looks up from under the sink, he hallucinates that she looks just like Chambers and will kill him with the lamb. Brian panic, screams and hits his head on the underside of the sink, knocking himself cold. Joe rushes into the kitchen and is accidentally knocked cold when Fay turns around hits him with the lamb. Helen rushes in to find both brothers unconscious and Fay looking bewildered. Helen screams, prompting Fay to do the same.

At the terminal a few days later, the group watches Fugitives From Justice where it's reported that Chambers has been captured in Chicago. (Brian himself had phoned in a tip to the FBI, much to the chagrin of Fay and Joe & Helen.) Joe speaks up and mentions that the captured Chambers did strongly resemble Fay. Fay says she'd never simply kill Brian outright, but would tamper with the fuel gauge on their plane instead.
