"The Wild Wild West" The Night of the Bottomless Pit (TV Episode 1966) Poster

Robert Conrad: Jim West

Quotes

  • Gustave Mauvais : [looks at West who is pretending to be Andre Coteau, an inmate on the island]  Ah, I thought you looked older, Mousier Coteau.

Jim West : Sorry to disappoint you. Maybe in time.

Gustave Mauvais : Oh, yes, time. We have a great quantity of that around here.

[realizes he never introduced West to Cochin]

Gustave Mauvais : Oh, forgive my lapse of manners. That is Cochon, my Social Director. And I am Gustave Mauvais, commandant of our little retreat. Our clients usually arrive at our recreational center for, oh, various reasons. Murder most foul, for instance. Then, of course, there's arson, embezzlement if it's on a grand enough scale. But yours, Mousier...

    [laughs]

Gustave Mauvais : Your offense, Mousier was indeed, a monstrous fall from grace.

Jim West : Oh, it uh, wasn't as bad as all that.

Gustave Mauvais : You, uh, you think not, huh?

[picks up a piece of paper in front of him and stars reading]

Gustave Mauvais : Frances Crown of Thorne, Devil's Island. Beginning a sensational expose by that celebrated journalist, Andre Coteau. You went so far as to argue that the colony be abolished. And to propose a national trial for that archvillain, Gustave Mauvais.

Jim West : Seemed like a pretty good idea at the time, Mauvias.

Gustave Mauvais : Instead of which, you found yourself on trial for the inputting the honor of your nation. The verdict was never in doubt.

Jim West : Well, I could be full of high spirit. May I see the rest of that...

[Cochon throws West back as Gustave screams]

Gustave Mauvais : Never reach out your filthy hand to me. UNDERSTAND?

Jim West : I'm beginning to.
