Panelist Larry Blyden was starring in the Broadway musical 'The Apple Tree' at the Shubert Theatre. The production ran for 463 performances, closing on November 25, 1967. Blyden would later become the host of the syndicated What's My Line? (1968).
According to production notes, this episode was prerecorded on October 31, 1966.
Virna Lisi's '"road movie" type film 'Not with My Wife, You Don't! (1966)' premiered in New York City on November 2, 1966, to positive reviews.
English aviatrix Sheila Scott, the first contestant to appear, had just flown solo round the world, arriving at London Heathrow on June 20, 1966, after covering approximately 31,000 mi (49,890 km) on 189 flying hours in 33 days. She would be appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1968.
Coincidentally with the first contestant's job, in 1936, ex-panelist Dorothy Kilgallen competed with two other New York newspaper reporters in a race around the world using only means of transportation available to the public. She was the only woman to compete in the contest and came in second. She described the event in her book "Girl Around the World", which is credited as the story idea for Fly Away Baby (1937), with a character partly inspired by Kilgallen.
