Series regular Dorothy Kilgallen was the mystery guest on this episode. She had been in the hospital allegedly with pneumonia. However, several years later it was revealed that she had actually been hospitalized to help combat her substance abuse problem.
This was Johnny Olson's first show as announcer, though on this occasion he filled in for then-regular announcer Hal Simms. Olson did not assume regular announcing duties until the fall of 1961.
James B. Osborn, the first contestant, was the Commander of the USS George Washington's Blue crew in the first operational Polaris ballistic missile submarine in June 1960. The vessel's complement consisted of two crews (Blue/Gold) each made up of 12 officers and 100 men.
