William Frawley and Vivian Vance in Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse (1958)

The Desilu Revue

Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse

7/10

Out of character

The quartet of players who brought us I Love Lucy during the 50s step out of their characters and appear as themselves to host a Christmas special review. Funny thing is that Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance and William Frawley seem a whole lot like the people they play,

The plot as it is has Desi Arnaz telling Hedda Hopper all the problems Lucy was causing being a frantic wreck with opening night jitters. Still the young performers carry on in the best tradition of show business. A few of these fols actually achieved some fame later on.

Several CBS stars appear as themselves dring the show as well wishers for Lucy and Desi. Who would have dreamed that Lucy and Desi would call it quits the following year.

An interesting piece of nostalgia.
