Bradley Whitford in The West Wing (1999)

Goofs

Shutdown

The West Wing

Edit

Continuity

Although it takes place during the holiday season and multiple characters comment on the freezing temperature, when Bartlet stops to speak to the tourists from Kansas on his way to the Capitol, the tourists as well as those in the background can be seen wearing light clothing and t-shirts.
Will asks where they can get coffee, Toby notes that the mess is closed, and C.J. Tells him where there are open coffee shops nearby. But there are several coffee stations located throughout the offices, including one right in front of Josh's office.
On top of the clothing being off for the holiday season, all the trees still have all their leafs.
In a previous episode it is stated the President doesn't like green beans, and that could potentially upset Oregon green bean growers. Here at a state dinner not only are they serving green beans but California green bean.

Factual errors

While talking to Josh from the bar, Donna says there will be an elk over-population, because the shutdown has stopped hunting licenses from being issued. In fact, hunting licenses are issued by the states, not by the federal government.
The Speaker of the House says, "Historically, the Commander in Chief's purview is foreign policy." In the Constitution, the term "Commander in Chief" refers to the president's command of the armed forces. The title does not apply to the president in any other context.

Character error

A girl on TV Says that her family came to Washington to see her Grandma and the Constitution. "But the Smithsonian's closed. Now we only get to see Grandma." The Constitution is in the National Archives, not the Smithsonian.
