Bartlet throws down the gauntlet by naming two reformers to the Federal Election Commission. The debut of Kathleen York as Andrea, Toby's ex-wife. She's fun and spontaneous, and a perfect foil. Al Keifer and Joey Lucas spend time at the White House, providing numbers on Bartlet's campaign against racist drug laws. The Josh/Joey adorableness at its peak. The wonderful Bruce Weitz (Belker, HILL STREET BLUES) growls out a delightful Senate Majority Leader. Leo and Toby have a bang-up scene telling opposition staffers with bosses who have drug records in their families, that hypocrisy won't be tolerated. Another classic WEST WING New Jersey reference.

THE WEST WING: SEASON 1, EPISODE 20: Mandatory Minimums Directed by: Robert Berlinger Written by: Aaron Sorkin

Tensions are rising and we get an episode which is sort've a stepping stone as the season approaches it's end with two more episodes left to go. The episode is offset by the president announcing his two nominees to fill two vacant seats on the Federal Election Commission.

This sets all the following events of the episode which include C. J. lashing out at Danny, Toby having to discuss issues with his ex-wife & Leo/Toby having to tell opposition staffers with bosses who have drug records in their families, that hypocrisy won't be tolerated.

There are great little scenes throughout the episode and it is pleasurably but not the most effective episode of the season.
