President Bartlet promises the Secretary of Agriculture that next year, during the State of the Union, the Surgeon General will be given the duty of being the one person in the Order of Succession who will not attend. The Surgeon General is not in the order of succession. The only non-Secretary in the Cabinet who is in the order of succession is the Attorney General.
A map in the Situation Room shows the disputed South Asian region of Kashmir. The map identifies the Pakistani-controlled portion of Kashmir as "Jamu" (sic) and the Indian-controlled portion as "Kashmir". Jammu (the correct spelling has two M's) is a region completely within the south western part of the Indian-controlled territory, which is why the official Indian name for the entire state is "Jammu and Kashmir". The Pakistani-controlled regions are known as "Azad Kashmir" and the "Northern Areas", and the Chinese regions are known as "Aksai Chin" and the "Trans-Karakoram Tract". The name "Kashmir" collectively refers to the entire territory, including the Pakistani-, Indian- and Chinese-controlled territory.
During the State of the Union the designated survivor, in this case the Secretary of Agriculture, would not be held at the White House or any other high visibility government location as it would also be a likely target in the event of an attack. They would be held at an secret low level location far away from any government office.
